Control terminal not responding and Drush error

Drupal 7.12, Varnish 3.0.2.

I've seen similar posts, but none that seem to address my particular issue, so I though it best to open up a new one.

Control terminal is set to 8080 and varnishstat -1 reports "happy," yet status is "The Varnish control terminal is not responding on [IP]:8080 (or 127.0.0.1:8080, etc.)

Drush cc throws the following error:

WD varnish: Recieved status code 11 running ban req.http.host ~ default && req.url ~ "/". Full       [error]
response text: Resource temporarily unavailable

I have 3.x set and have modified settings.php. I've also applied the patch from #3 from http://drupal.org/node/1323418. And I also have the Varnish control key entered - what am I missing? Thanks for any guidance...
