Relatively new to CSS and started adapting Zen theme to a two-column fixed-width site with the content centered in the window. As far as I can tell, (almost?) every setting in layout.css is also addressed in zen.css so I deleted layout.css, emptied my browser cache and reloaded several pages...and nothing moved.

What does this particular style sheet actually do? If zen.css overrides everything set in layout.css, why bother serving it? What am I missing?

Also, can anyone tell me where the selector "#container" at the top of layout.css is used by any template, block or module because I haven't come across it yet.

I am going to take a stab at letting you know why no one else is responding.

You are not saying what you are trying to do, and so you are not acknowledging that you have a problem.

And yet, you have written a support request.

Actually it makes perfect sense to me. This person wants to know what layout.css does. They also want to know what "#container" is used for. :)
