I'm working with a blind user who utilizes the JAWS screen reading software to access the internet. We have built a website for him on Drupal Gardens, http://elitepianist.drupalgardens.com/node

The feedback from his first experience with the Rotating Banner was that he did not even know what it was. Here is what he wrote:

I’m not sure how to describe what I [hear through JAWS], but it’s just probably that some additional alt text might be in order. There are 38 links on the home page. JAWS can put them into a list, and for the purposes of describing, that might be a help.

Link 7 says something like “Click here to listen to a sample of Dale’s music,” but nothing seems to happen when I press enter.

Links 8 and 9 both have this spoken by JAWS: 1mwab85LGYI (and I don’t know what that means). Clicking on either of them plays the YouTube video.

Link 10 is the same as link 7.

(Link 11 is something about maps, and I didn’t even try it.)

Links 12 and 13 say “1” and “2” respectively.

Thank you for your generosity and perseverance with all this.

The answers to his confusion would be as follows: the "Click here . . ." link was the wording overlay on the banner, and it was listed as a link to JAWS but was nonfunctional. The string of characters was the YouTube link for the banner, but somehow the Rotating Banner module had stripped the initial "http://YouTube.com" and allowed no text option in the link address so that the link remained unrecognizable. The links 10 and 11 were overlay wording on a banner, again both identified as links to JAWS but appeared to be nonfunctional. The links 1 and 2 were the buttons at the bottom to change the banners manually. He had no idea what 1 and 2 meant.

So, if anyone is working on accessibility for the Rotating Banner module, making these areas clearer would be most helpful. Thank you.
