I want to "wash out" an image (reduce color range). I have tried several different things and it did not happen. How can I do this?

Does lightnessNot tried it myself, but maybe you could do it with a semitransparent white .png watermark using the overlay-watermark imagecache action. The action can add the trasparency for you (i.e just use a white.png) but this is slower (it tells you about this).

Hope that helps, and/or gives the effect you are looking for...

No, Brightness didn't do it; it just washes out contrast (okay on B&W, but not color).

The semitransparent watermark works, but it forces dimensions that don't match the original image. Sigh.
