A redirection to a different registration form depending on th e roel tthe user has chosen would be great but I guess it would involve other modules isn't it ?

You can use node profiles and register profile, and use that to display role based profile forms. At the moment, the drupal 5 version of register profile hasn't been 100% updated, but it's coming.
