Overriding Image style for "media_gallery_thumbnail" trouble

I'm overriding the image style for "media_gallery_thumbnail" to be 150x150 and in a sense it does work. On the Gallery landing page the image is now a 150x150 upscaled to 450x450 (450x450 was the default in Image Styles for "media_gallery_thumbnail").

I am not using a view for this, (the "image gallery" template view will not import, gives an error).

error in case it is relevant:

Fatal error: Call to a member function get_human_name() on a non-object in /home/useraccount/public_html/sites/all/modules/views/plugins/export_ui/views_ui.class.php

I'd really like to just present the galleries in a grid view, not having too much luck yet as I'm just understanding Media and Media Gallery, may have a support request on this later :). Still browsing the Issues.
