Yes, timestamps would be relatively straight forward. When I get time, I'll try to add them, they are an obvious improvement.

Each message is already timestamped. Do you want the timestamps to be visible, and in a certain format?

"xxx minutes / days ago" would be great (if possible). That would account for users in different timezones.

I'm planning on a redesign so I'll make sure to include this as a feature. Ideally, you should be able to decide the format in the settings page.
