The media browser needs to filter based on file type or file extensions. Originally posted in #1224766-30: Remove default media browser and replace with a default view.

The new media browser view does filter based on file type (via a dropdown) and by file extension (via the "file name" text field):

Since the file type filter comes from file_entity, you may need to update to the latest -dev of file entity.
