The strings actually used in the current code seem to be quite different from those to be found in buddylist.pot (working on branch DRUPAL-5).

Also, when trying to extract the current strings from the module-source, extractor.php gave me 2 errors:

Invalid marker content in buddylist.module:1420
* t($subject,$replacements)

Invalid marker content in buddylist.module:1421
* t($message,$replacements)

Would you like me to make a patch for a new pot-file and a german po-file (assuming I should combine the 3 resulting pot-files into 1), or do you suggest another course of action?

Title: translations ... » Update pot and german translation
Status: Active » Needs work
FileSize
9.72 KB

Just extracted a new pot a few days before. I also just created a new german translation. I didn't post it, because in my opinion some changes have to be made to the english original. Just marginal changes like lower case to capitals according to the new drupal5 standards. My last patch is still in the queue and I'm not familiar with overlapping versioning, so I haven't sent yet. But if you need an update now, well here it is.

Some remarks on the german translation: It is an informal "du"-version using "neue Rechtschreibung". Even though I've choosen to translate buddies into "Kontakte" I left "buddylist" as the modulename. Unfortunatly I was not able to put in german quotationmarks although they are demanded of the translation guidelines.

Feel free to check, submit or improve it. :)

Thanx a lot, looks quite good now.
I'll have a look over the translations a bit later, just one question: how did you choose your translation for buddies -> Kontakte?
I had been thinking more of "Freunde" ...

For the quotationmarks have a look at the po-files from the german translation project, they seem to know the right utf-8 codes.
If you know how to enter them, tell me too ;-)

Hi Ray, you are right: Usually I would call them friends ("Freunde"), too. But you have to ask: Why isn't this feature called "friends" in english then? One reason is the excellent buddygroup feature which is a need especially on my site, I admit. People invite many other people there and have some different relationships to them: family, parents, collegues, cohabitants, related,... and friends. So if I chose "Freunde" it would have overlapped a buddygroup term. Buddygroups are a very exciting feature that would make a user's life more easy if he could rely on them in other modules, too. Think of node-access... *dreaming a while*

Anyway... the "buddy"-translation could be changed easily, the buddylist module translation is very well designed to make these changes easy. You just have 8 words overwritten ("buddy", "buddylist", their plurals and uppercase varients). Check also the plurals of cases that are not "nominativ" for the right endings as they depend on the "buddy"-word you choose.
