I get the following error in my drupal log when I do the following (I have 3 product types, essentially clones of the base Product type):
1. Create a new rule with event "After adding a product to the cart"
2. Condition: Data Comparison with Parameter: Data to compare: [commerce-product:type] and Data value: Group Exercise Pass (this is one of my product types)
3. Action: Add a variable of type "Payment Settings"

Notice: Undefined index: payment_method in RulesDataUIPaymentSettings::inputForm() (line 211 of /var/aegir/platforms/commerce-b2/profiles/commerce_kickstart/modules/commerce/modules/payment/commerce_payment.rules.inc).

Using the DCommerce Kickstart install profile, only two extraneous modules enabled, those being Module Filter and my payment gateway module.

This is happening because you can't actually add a payment settings variable. I did add a condition to ensure you don't get the notice, but there's nothing you'll be able to do functionally by defining a payment settings variable. It's specifically defined for the various "Enable payment method X" actions the Payment module defines. I'm not sure how to restrict it from appearing in that list.
