It would be good to see a clarification why is it a good idea to start a new project instead of contributing to http://drupal.org/project/sentry_server or http://drupal.org/project/droptor (or others, presumably).

Jānis Bebrītis commentedI've always thought of making module like this, thought it would be really nice. I've seen only Droptor previously, never found other projects like it.
Droptor is out of scope for it's server part being external project. Sentry server/client module looks really good, although it's working another way around.
Thing I don't want this module to do (at least yet), is modify remote site's (client) variables or settings. I also don't want to open "secret url" for reading (potentially sensitive) site data, that's why I make clients connect to aggregating server, not the other way around. I feel it safer, expecially when dealing with high profile sites.
Working on this module I'm trying to make site data re-usable as much as I can. Sites and other data are nodes/fields, so one can use those however they like - using views, triggers, whatever. For example, Internally we add several fields to it - "site contacts", "upgrade tips" and use those in custom listings (per client/per server/etc).
I was/am planning on continuing developing this module for my internal use anyway, because I didn't know any other module like this, I shared it to community. It's just another great project ;)
