Hello,
I have installed both open layers and gmap, and have gotten nothing to work on the lastest drupal.
The site is here :
http://community.sharedmap.org/

The big problem is that there are hundreds of issues, I have not time to read hundreds of them. All I want to know is this : what version of drupal and what modules do really work? What version can I create a set of nodes with a location, with a picture and other data and have them displayed on a map?

thanks,
mike

I sort of feel the same)
Trying to find a geo module that can work with d7.
Geolocation doesn't work with Views
Geofield is in dev and it uses Openlayers (future of which is dim)
Requirements are simple have nodes, users, terms associated with locations on a map. And have several locations on a map/-s made with Views based on content or fields.
Waiting for Location 7.4

I'm using Location 7.3 with GMap module, showing nodes on a GMap view, without a problem.

how about users and terms? should give it a try. thank you.

Changing to support request because no bug has been reported.

I agree that if you are using drupal 7 for any website that is not quite basic you will run into problems pretty quick. You will probably need some coding ability to get a complex drupal 7 website going.

But as far as this issue goes:
The reason you might be totally frustrated with d7 is because you are using 7.x-4.x.
If you read the project page you'll see that 7.x-3.x is the working version.
You will also notice that 7.x-4.x isn't even on the project page so you must have gone out of your way to get the wrong version.

It is working up to the level of functionality of 6.x-3.x (including views support, location user and location taxonomy - there are a couple of little issue still but not many).
There are two main things that aren't working yet:
Token support - See #1056154: Token support doesn't work yet
Drupal core field support (currently only works for nodes) - See #1064666: Location CCK not saving for entities other than nodes
The gist of that issue is that originally 7.x-3.x was to be a straight port of 6.x-3.x and 7.x-4.x is to be a rewrite for drupal 7. So location cck was going to work only on nodes (like in drupal 6). But that has a lot of people upset so I'm going to do full fields support for 7.x-3.x.

Other than that, for a list of relevant issues for the d7 version see - http://drupal.org/project/issues/location?text=&status=Open&priorities=A...

All this information is easily available so please try to research things before asking, there are already enough issues to get sorted without having to repeatedly answer the same questions.

Please try 7.x-3.x and report any bugs you find and I'll get them sorted out ASAP.

FYI Rooby, nobody has to go out of their way to get the update to 7.x-4.x-dev ... it's available for download on the Administration > Reports page.

Many people will try updating to unreleased versions when they can't get the released versions to work.

rooby’s picture

Fair point, but if you try 7.x-4.x and can't get it to work your next step should be to look at the documentation and issue queues.

If you do that I think it is obvious enough which version to use.
I have tried to make the distinction between the 7.x-3.x & 7.x-4.x versions as clear as possible.

If you think it could be better reworded or something I'd be happy to change it.

Apologies if I came across a bit terse, it's just that after responding to so many issues where the information is already readily available, every now an then (especially when one is tired) it gets frustrating.

Also, 7.x-3.x is in a pretty good state now and should be ready for beta pretty soon.
Please post any bugs you find in it and I'll try get them fixes ASAP.

Hi all, and thanks for all the support here. I am having some difficulties on a D7 install (I have a D6 site that works fine & I probably should have stuck with D6 for both sites until later, however....)

I am using gmap & location (v6.3.1) to add maps to nodes. In D6 I can use Locative information in the node editing page, see the map, save the node & see the map displayed in view mode.
However, in D7 all the above happens except no map in view mode. All I see is the long+latitude info. I have struggled for hours on this & searched widely but have found no solution. I have also read the gmap readme & found nothing that seems relevant.

I can use the gmap macro builder to create the code & paste it directly into the body or other field in a node. This displays in the node just fine. I have resorted to using the location field only to identify the location on a /map/node page which links to each separate page with a map. But it doesn't actually display the map.

So, I can work around the problem, but its either a bug or a silly error I am making. Either way it would be great to find a solution. You can see what I am doing at present at www.rhemahousing.co.uk

Hi Polgard,
My comment #3 was too positive. I do show maps on the node view page, but needed some work-around, too.
I used 2 alternatives:
1. activate the 'Location map' block in any region.
2. create a new display of type Attachment. This will display in the upper right corner of the node (at least in my theme)
--Set format to GMap; show Fields (nid, title); Contextual filter = Nid
--The map will now show on the same heigth as the title and hide its right part.
So, set Header to some newlines. This is awkward; I used: (' ' 10 x [Enter] ' ' )

P.S. can you set the title to a bit more informative text? I hope your immediate frustration has gone by now.. :-)

polgard’s picture

thanks johnv, your suggestion 1. was exactly what I had missed :
- enabling the location block in the node type.
That has solved the problem & now each page displays the map correctly.

BTW, the frustration in the title was not mine, and I assume only an admin can change the title of this thread.

Title: Totally Frustrated with drupal 7 » How do I show this $#@ location map on a node View?

polgard, I was mistaken by the new 'Revision' line on top of the issue page.
h4ck3rm1k3, have you ever become of your frustration? I change your title to a more informative one.

A couple of months on.

What do you suggest?

We're taking location info via Migrate Module and importing this so that it creates a node for each. E.g. House Type, Date Updated, Address - Postcode -County - etc.

How do you get GMAP to pick up an interpret that info attatched to a node? Or have I missed a step here.
