Assuming you know html and css and Drupal themeing ...
You edit your node templates to place the image field before the node title, and then add some css to your theme to float them left.
I'm unable to provide more specific instructions, because it depends on the site's configuration.

If you are using the inbuilt field_image field for images, tma 7.x-1.0-beta2 now floats this to the left for teasers.
