Let's include http://drupal.org/project/signup_profile, so that COD has better built-in support for free events.

We could either have it enabled by default so that it "just works" with free events, or document that you should turn it on for magic. I prefer the first option since it's light weight enough that it doesn't really seem like a performance issue and makes things easier for folks with free events.

FWIW, my preference is just to document this idea and not change the code since that seems like an easier way to get this fixed and get to a 6.x-1.0.
