Do not link to taxonomy/term page

I am trying to get the taxonomy image to NOT link to taxonomy/term/n. I have unchecked the box under Admin-->Taxonomy Term --> Node Display. However in both field views and in node (themed via tpl file) the image is still linking to the taxonomy/term/n page.
How can i just display the image without it being a link?
