Hi All,
Two questions;
1) Is there any ETA on when this module will be compatible with Drupal 5?
2) is there a conversion script to get to this module from the standard Drupal Forum?
Comments
Comment #1
daniel.hunt commented1: in the coming weeks
2: no :)
brashquido commentedWow, that was a quick response. No problems, if you were ever interested in implementing the Drupal node system along with a converter/migration script from the current forum module I potentially (depending on cost/time frame, etc) might be interested in sponsoring it. Cheers.
daniel.hunt commentedWell I'm currently finding it difficult to get time to sit down and get the work down for the conversion - I've yet to even read the documentation for developers so that I'll know what to do in the first place!
Real-life work has taken a firm hold on me at the moment and it's not letting go - I just don't have the time right now to justify the level of work needed on a non-paying job :)

brashquido commentedI could definitely contribute some money (couple of hundred USD) for your time, but I probably wouldn't be able to afford to sponsor the entire project myself as I don't have an income right now as I am traveling. If you want to discuss it further you can contact me at brashquido AT brashquido DOT org . I wouldn't have an issue in trying to raise the capital to get things moving as I've done it several times before (Subscriptions module, Authorship module, AMS module for the Xoops CMS, etc). I have a feeling though that not a great deal of effort would be needed considering the demand for a feature rich AND fully integrated forum solution for Drupal.
vigo-1 commentedI've got a conversion to Drupal 5 about 50%-60% done, just got the changes in the Forms API to go. Taken less than 2 hour so far, I'm a coding machine :-)
More a case of time than anything, the remaining work is pretty mind numbing.
Hope to have a releasable version for Daniel to play with in the next week or so (I may need this module for an upcoming project of mine, so there's a pretty good chance it'll get done). I'm not going to add any more features yet, I want to get it up and running on 5.1 and then I might add on some new abilities.
brashquido commentedThat would be awesome Vigo! Look forward to seeing your work very much!
daniel.hunt commentedVigo - I'm impressed. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done with the code! There are a number of places that I'd like cleaned up, no doubt you can see from the code that it's not the most efficient piece of software ever written, however I have made vast improvements over the early 4.6 versions with regard to performance and the various recursive functions I use.
Can I ask, was it difficult for you to understand how the system worked?
vigo-1 commentedI didn't really look at the code much - just went right through the 4.7 to 5 upgrade list (all 44 points) and checked to see if they applied. Tunnel vision and exhaustion were actually very useful for this project :-)
The real fun is the forms, nothing needs changing in the form structure itself but the way of generation & callback has changed significantly.
daniel.hunt commentedSo, how's it going?
When you're done with it, I want to start looking into using templates for the display of posts and the various pages that are currently hard coded into the module files :)
vigo-1 commentedNot had time to work on it for a couple of days, been very ill. Now have paid work to catch up on, but this is near the top of my list.
Once I've transformed the display functions I can refactor them to be themable. I'd also like to explore using the standard node system, 5.0's custom content-types + cck give us significant power, and even more if we can break it down enough to let the user use contemplates for post displays. Eventually I'd like to see a 'forum' installation package for Drupal, make it all nice and easy.
brashquido commentedSounding very promising :)
daniel.hunt commentedIt certainly does! :)
bozo-1 commentedAh, look what you've done! Now all of us evil lurkers are drooling, and eagerly waiting for the 5.x port! :-)
daniel.hunt commentedWell then stop lurking and start coding ;) :p
Vigo - if you use irc at all, jump on to irc.quakenet.org, and join #uieforum. I idle in there alot and tis the perfect place to discuss your changes.
Daniel
Comment #15
cybertron1 commentedwow, this project does exactly what I need for a forum!!
I know it is hard to estimate, but how much is there left? I would really need this forum module to atleast be somewhat funktional by the end of next week !!
Is there anything I could do to help you??
I am no coder (but I can "read" code and copy/paste and test code)
maybe participate in other ways?
please feel free to contact me if you need help/testers
Comment #16
vigo-1 commentedI'll probably have the first revision of the port to 5.1 for zoro's approval by the end of next week, testing help will be required.
cybertron1 commentedthen count me in as a testperson :D
I have everything ready to try every single aspekt of it :D
/Michael
Comment #18
daniel.hunt commented:)
Well I'm sure we won't have anyproblems with finding testers ;) Deadhobo has been an avid follower of this module since day 1 - I'm sure he'd be more than willing to help out with the testing of the 5.* port too. He's been involved in the testing of every major version so far ;)
bozo-1 commentedCount another tester in!
cybertron1 commentedHi there
How is it going?
PeakEngineer commentedSign me up for beta testing -- I'm eager to put UIEforums back up on my site and I'd love to see how it works in Drupal 5
Comment #22
vigo-1 commentedHave my head around the new form processing system. Hoping to have time to implement it over the next few days. Busy busy!
daniel.hunt commented*throws hat in the air* wooo ;)
cybertron1 commentedI appreciate your work vigo
Comment #25
kenjiru commentedI'm looking forward for this. Please share with us more details regarding the evolution of your work.
awardpromo commentedI've seen UIE Forum in action on the demo site, and I can't wait to see the drupal 5.x version! :)
cybertron1 commentedhow is it going?? any progress?
awardpromo commentedi second that, keep us updated. i'm very excited to have a 5.1-compatible version of this project :)
daniel.hunt commentedI've spent a few hours over the weekend working on this... lets just say that it's not quite as simple as I would have hoped :)
The change from 4.6 to 4.7 was relatively easy. But the change from 4.7 to 5.0 will require a few major re-workings of the forum logic to account for the (massive) differences in how the new form system works.
/me sighs
I'm working on it :)
Daniel
Comment #30
daniel.hunt commentedThe first 5.0 tarball is now up on drupal.org - I know there are problems with the page-forwarding after adminning posts/threads/forums, but I'm interested to know if anyone has any other issues with the system too.
Daniel
Comment #31
cybertron1 commentedHi Daniel!
This is splendid!!! Right on time for me to implement it before my big comany release of drupal :D
My problem now is that I am away on a Security Course, but as soon as I get backto my hotell, I will try this new version out on my testserver!! Many thanks!! I will report how it works to you later! and perhaps I might even be able to help you *smile*
many many thanks!

daniel.hunt commented:)
Well let me know how it goes - and open new bug reports for anything you find :p
Comment #33
heng commentedit probably is just stupidity but i cant create new forums... only new threads... help me plz.
i love this forum module. id be in for some testing as well :D
Comment #34
heng commentedmy bad... :D just found it all ... so it was stupidity ^^
Comment #35
daniel.hunt commented:) You just made me download uieforum, drupal 5.1, and wamp. Install wamp, install and configure drupal, and JUST before I extract uieforum into the modules directorty i get a ping about a new email...
pfft :)
heng commentedme again... i have a problem adding security groups. when i try to add one it says
* You must enter a thread title
* You must enter a thread body
i have however filled in all the boxes that are available (2 :D) anyone knows what i can do about that?
heng commentedim really sorry about that... but i submitted a new problem :D does that help?
daniel.hunt commentedAre you sure you submitted a bug report?
http://drupal.org/node/129472
I've made one myself anyway. I've also updated the HEAD and drupal 5.0 repositories with the latest code. It won't reflect until midnight though
Comment #39
majhra commentedA few small issues I've noticed so far...
1. Changing the access path to forum mashes the two forum configs together, and makes editing them impossible. (work around - don't do that!)
2. The breadcrums in the forum are shadowed.
3. Forum does not match colour theme (if you've moved from the standard blue).
Other than those (liveable) issues - Good Job!
daniel.hunt commented1. Didnt notice that myself. I must look into that
2. Now _THAT_ I did notice, and it only happens in Garland. I haven't a _CLUE_ why that's happening :D
3. My own fault for using custom styles I'm afraid. I'll move it over to use standard ones soon enough though, as well as distributing an optional stylesheet that can be enabled/disabled in the configuration
Comment #41
bozo-1 commentedThe shadowed breadcrumbs kinda surprised me too :-)
Apart from that, I have one significant issue : I never get any kind of information regarding new threads, or new messages in a thread. The icons never change (appearing as a closed envelope).
