I find it more flexible as well W3-validated to use Views together with module Views Slideshow to do the same as module Scrolltext

As well you can add images and linked to node/not linked to node scrolltext. I tested Scrolltext module but since of it lacks I found the Views+Views slideshow to be a better solution to do the same

ScrollText is very simple module. No js here. And will use Views as source on D7 version.
