I have created a sub-theme of CTI Flex (called RMT) using the files in "Subtheme.zip" at http://demo2.andreajross.com/subtheming. When I am configuring the RMT subtheme at 'admin/build/themes/settings/RMT' all the options after the 'Theme development settings' are duplicated. So, on the settings page I get:
Fixed or fluid with layout
Color scheme
Font Family
Custom Color Settings
Fixed or fluid with layout

Custom Color Settings
I can create the 'RMT' subtheme and change some settings as distinct from the CTI Flex theme but I was wondering if the previously mentioned problem is also causing the right sidebar not to appear?

ajross commentedAre you using version 6.20 of core? There previously was a bug that caused problems with sub-sub theming where settings weren't inherited correctly. I heard that was fixed in 6.20 although hadn't tested it yet. But all the theme settings I previously had to duplicate in CTI Flex subthemes because of that bug. It sounds like those things are now being inherited correctly so all the theme settings I put in that Subtheme.zip file need to be removed because it is causing duplication. You might try setting up the subtheme again without the included template.php and theme-settings.php documents and see if that works (or just delete them, but be sure to clear the cache). If you do try that, let me know how it works. I do not know if it is related to your sidebar problem or not; we can address that once we figure this part out. Thanks!

TonyBy commentedThank you for quick reply. I am using 6.20 core. When I deleted template.php and theme-settings.php documents the website was unusable. When I only deleted theme-settings.php the site looked as it should and there was no duplication of the options on the settings page. I think this item can be closed now as I'm getting the displays I was expecting but I'll let you be the judge of that bearing in mind that I have had to delete a file to get it working.

ajross commentedFor anyone else who runs into this issue, bugs related to subtheming were corrected in 6.20, so the files on the demo site are just meant to be used to subtheme in earlier versions of core. Now you should be able to follow the instructions for subtheming on drupal.org and things should work as expected.

curtzt commentedI'm subtheming CTI-Flex, using Drupal 7.14 and a fresh download of CTI-Flex 7.x-1.0. I get the same situation TonyBy reports here - the site looks as it should, and I can successfully alter it by changing the css files in my new subtheme, but I have duplicate displays in the subtheme's Settings screen. This problem also still seems to go away if I discard the CTI-Flex theme-settings.php file that I included in my new subtheme folder.
Since the various posts with subtheming instructions for Drupal 7 consistently include an item about searching and replacing the name of the theme you are subtheming in the theme-settings.php file of your new subtheme folder with the name of your new subtheme, the documentation clearly implies that one needs that file. It seems as if either the instructions or the behavior needs to be adjusted, so I'm re-setting the status of this issue to "needs work." (I haven't tried to see if one can actually enable the new sub-theme without that file there to get things started, or not.)
Best wishes...
