There won't be a Drupal 7 version, but there will be an upgrade path.....

As you can do exactly what this module does with a combination of CCK and Views, I'll develop functionality to migrate Side Content fields to CCK fields, and provide documentation on how to replicate Side Content using Views.

Once you've migrated to CCK you can then upgrade your site to Drupal 7.
