It would be nice with an option in the block configuration for the facet blocks to hide when they are used, since they only contain the filtered facet that is also shown in the current search block. I tried to set the "Minimum result count" to 2, but it did only affect the initial facet block after search, not when it has been used.

All facets get a new option, "Show active facet links". If deactivated, the "(-) foo" links will vanish from the block. If there also are no additional facet links to click, the whole block won't be displayed.
