If you haven't seen Steven Wittens' latest Drupal website, go look! It's something to behold. Remember to list this one as an example when the next n00b asks "will I be able to make Drupal look nice?" Here's the background for the site on Steven's blog.
Socialtext is a Wiki company. We make Wikis. Some time ago, someone argued, that a "great company deserves a great website powered by a great CMS", and last night we went live on Drupal from a static website. Check it out here.
First reactions? The non-techs love the fact that content is manageable on the fly. Original concerns that Drupal is "some weblog software" went away when we showed the ease of creating modules and extending themes. All in all, both internally and externally, this was a success story so far.
Gerhard will be a maintainer of the DRUPAL-4-7 branch. Drupal 4.7.0 will be our best release to date, and having a dedicated maintainer is going to be extremely valuable. I believe Gerhard will do a great job securing the stability of the Drupal 4.7 release series. After all, he is particularly skilled in saying "no, only bugfixes are allowed". ;-)
Neil will be a maintainer of the DRUPAL-4-8/DRUPAL-5-0 branch (the next Drupal version after Drupal 4.7). An important reason for putting Neil in this role is his background with the update/install system and his experience maintaining a successful Drupal distribution. Hopefully, his experience will help us to get closer to supporting install profiles.
Please join me in thanking Gerhard and Neil for taking on these roles.
This weekend, several Drupal developers, users and handwavers have gathered at FOSDEM in Brussels. There have been plenty of interesting talks (even a Web 2.0 Development track filled with buzzwords) and plenty of people to convert to Drupal.
If you're attending the event, come by our impromptu booth (next to Jabber and OpenSUSE) to hang out!
While looking for designs for a couple of my private Drupal sites I went to the effort to create Drupal themes from a few designs found on Open Web Designs (and one WordPress theme). I've contributed these back to the Drupal community. For the most part they are complete with respect to the most common Drupal components although they may need tweeked in some of the admin views.
The first three are simple/minimalist designs and the last two are a little more complex.
