Intelligent Interactive Design and Development

Major Robot Interactive is a crew of innovative designers and developers that took shape in the creative hotbed of Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York. We specialize in building and developing Content Management Systems (CMS), onsite exhibit displays and interfaces for museums, and other online interactive experiences.

Building the Brain of Interactive Projects

Major Robot specializes in developing back-end platforms. We deliver intelligent integration and distribution of interactive data and content, with special expertise in back-end development. We also provide cutting-edge information architecture, design, and front-end development services. We work closely with clients to develop an understanding of brand identity in order to deliver a comprehensive, dynamic online presence: website design and development, user experience design, and CMS development and integration for a maintainable site.

Clients and Collaborators

We are very fortunate to have worked with many great corporate and non-profit clients. We create strategic solutions for everything from large-scale websites and mobile sites, to Facebook applications, to interactive touch-screen software for museums, to advanced CMS integrations.

Our Technological Toolkit

We’ve been developing with Drupal for years, and as it’s grown, we’ve grown with it, maximizing its strengths to our clients’ benefit. Our team is proficient with PHP, MySQL, MongoDB, JavaScript/AJAX, HTML5, and CSS3, among many others.

A Team of Mad Scientists

The Major Robot team is known for our technical savvy, creative problem solving, and down-to-earth customer service. Simply put, we’re good people who are good at what we do. We deliver fully functioning, precisely crafted interactive projects, with warm, engaging client-focused customer service along the way. Whatever the size or scope of your project, we can meet your needs.

Drupal contributions

Some ways we've contributed:

  • We created and maintain the Credly module.
  • We have a sandbox module in development called Mongor: Mongo Relationships that is meant to dovetail with Views: EFQ. It aims to be a handy workaround for creating Views-style relationships for EFQ views.
  • Figuring out ways to push the limits of Drupal is what gets us up in the morning (well, that and an iced americano). We may have developed the largest Drupal site using MongoDB to date: The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History's Q?rius experience. The Drupal/Mongo back-end also powers the NMNH's on-site interactive kiosks via a custom REST API, as well.
  • We've also developed a style of creating "headless-with-a-head" Drupal sites, where data is delivered in a manner comparable to modern MVC frameworks so that top-notch front-end developers can work with blue-sky HTML. Example: https://fragomen.com. We're currently refining code from these projects to contribute as a standalone module.
  • We've contributed and reviewed patches and modules.
  • We're Drupal cheerleaders. It's the most fully-featured, extensible CMS out there. We support it and sing its praises in the tech world. Sure, it's got its flaws, but it will get you where you're going.
