Release notes

Development branch for 5.0.x, the next major version. It includes everything in 4.1.x and rebuilds the module around a provider plugin type, so each network is its own submodule.

New

  • New networks: Bluesky and Mastodon (no credentials needed), YouTube (API key) and Threads (Meta login).
  • Existing networks as submodules: socialfeed_facebook, socialfeed_instagram and socialfeed_x. Enable only the networks you use.
  • One settings page per network at /admin/config/services/socialfeed/{network}. Each has the same number-of-posts, refresh-interval and display settings.
  • One block per network ([Network] feed), with optional per-block overrides. Credentials are only stored in a block when it is customized.
  • One template, socialfeed-post.html.twig, with socialfeed-post--NETWORK and socialfeed-post--NETWORK--SUBTYPE suggestions. The default style is themable with the --sf-accent, --sf-border, --sf-muted and --sf-radius custom properties.
  • Provider API: other modules can add a network by writing a #[SocialFeedProvider] plugin. See the README.

Breaking changes

  • Each network is now a submodule. The database update enables the submodule for every network that had credentials or placed blocks.
  • Configuration moves from socialfeed.{facebook,instagram,twitter}.settings to socialfeed_NETWORK.settings. The old configuration is deleted.
  • The block plugins facebook_post, instagram_post_block and twitter_post_block are replaced by socialfeed:NETWORK. Placed blocks are converted, and customized settings are kept.
  • The per-network templates (socialfeed-facebook-post, socialfeed-instagram-post-*, socialfeed-twitter-post) and the facebook_style, instagram_style and twitter_style libraries are removed. Posts now use sf-post classes.
  • The settings pages moved from /admin/config/socialfeed/* to /admin/config/services/socialfeed/*. The Instagram redirect URI /socialfeed/instagram/auth is unchanged.
  • X uses only the Bearer token; the OAuth 1.0a keys are dropped.

Upgrading from 4.x

Sites on any 4.x release, including 4.0.0, can update directly. Run composer require 'drupal/socialfeed:5.0.x-dev@dev', then drush updb. Afterwards, move any theme overrides to the new template and check your CSS.

This is a development release. The Threads, Instagram, Facebook and X providers are tested against mocked API responses; please report results from live accounts in the issue queue.
