Release notes
This fourth release candidate includes the fixes and settings improvements merged since rc3. Please test it on your site and report any new issues. If community testing finds no new release-blocking issues, the next planned release is stable 3.0.0.
New settings and accessibility improvements
- Site-wide defaults for the New Window, Full Screen and View mode controls (#3418925).
- Site-wide Settings button visibility and configurable preview view modes (#3502827).
- Polite “Preview closed.” feedback that repeats across open/close cycles, validated with Windows NVDA (#3350427).
- Readable preview frame names that stay current after refresh, and a named preview controls landmark (#3350422, #3350424).
- Clearer automatic-opening, permission and content-type availability wording (#3418921, #3355737).
Fixes
- Center Responsive Preview device frames beside the split pane (#3370382).
- Keep Domain Source preview AJAX on the editing host (#3494436).
- Keep the View mode selector usable in narrow panes (#3619938).
- Scope dialog enhancements to Same Page Preview and respect the server fallback for unavailable view modes (#3445550).
Upgrading
Requires PHP 8.3 or newer and Drupal ^11.2 || ^12. Drupal 10 is not supported by 3.0.x. Run drush updb after upgrading. Update hooks 8002 and 8003 add the new settings while preserving existing behavior.
Validation and follow-up
The release code passed pipeline 998864. Windows NVDA evidence covers preview orientation, frame context and repeated close feedback. Browser regressions cover keyboard traversal, close/reopen, RTL toolbar spacing and Navigation chrome exclusion. Drupal 12 next-major CI lanes now run automatically.
Settings popover presentation (#3619937), zoom controls (#3453208) and device-width presets (#3345991) remain post-stable work. HTMX 4 preparation (#3619936) belongs to a future major release. VoiceOver/Safari testing remains a follow-up and does not block this release.
