Problem/Motivation

Belgrade currently supports 404 route detection and template suggestions, but does not provide a dedicated, configurable optimized 404 experience out of the box. Projects end up implementing this repeatedly.

Since this must be solved at the theme layer, we should provide a theme setting that enables a minimal 404 page pattern and allows key values to be configured without code changes.

Proposed resolution

Add a new Belgrade theme setting (for example, optimized_404_enabled) that controls rendering of a minimal 404 page. When enabled, Belgrade should render a dedicated 404 template and attach a lightweight 404-specific library.

404 output (when setting is enabled)

  • Minimal shell with logo/header.
  • Brief 404 message.
  • Link to homepage.

Configurable theme settings

  • Enable/disable optimized 404 page.
  • Optional custom 404 image/logo source (theme asset path).
