10.1 tests are green, 10.2 were very broken.

Also noticed some deprecations and did a little bit of cleanup.

Merged this. The workaround is pretty ugly and not 100% sure if there won't be any weird side effects, there might be some places where this now shows up, but we don't really have a choice and I don't see any other option, it needs to be a real bundle now with the validation in 10.2.
