I have modified the code to only show the status message for non admin pages.
It would be great if the status message was actually a block instead, this would give site builders the choice on what pages the block should appear on.

+1 for this patch. I also think allowing it to be exposed as a block would be beneficial so the position & visibility rules could be configured.

Definitely, agree that in the feature we should implement expose as a block and extend this module to be more dynamic...But we should create a new issue for this feature request.

I took this one step further. I created a checkbox on the alert form that asks if you want to show on admin pages or not. I still gave jozzy_a credit.
