guschilds's sandbox: Simply Fieldable Files

Simply Fieldable Files provides an easy way to add fields to the File entity type.

This module simply:

• uses hook_entity_info_alter() to make Core's File entity type fieldable.
• adds a page callback (and a permission) to add fields and manage their display.

To use:

1. Download and install the module.
2. Navigate to Structure > Files, or admin/structure/files.
3. Use the Manage fields and Manage display tabs as you would for a content type, etc.

There is currently no UI to read/write file field values. This can be added if there is interest.
