I'm not sure if this effects Drupal 6.0, but with the DRUPAL-6 branch, this prevents the module from being installed since it gives you the little red x instead of an enable checkbox.

Seems a little silly to create a patch for, but adding this line to extlink.info did the trick:

core = 6.x
