Userpoints Category

Userpoints puts everything in a default category named General. Userpoints also creates a vocabulary named Userpoints. You can add extra categories by adding terms to the Userpoints vocabulary.

When do you use categories? Categories are similar to product classes in Ubercart. You can set some settings for a group of products instead of individual products.

You might sell plain Web pages for different numbers of points based on the range of content. You might also sell secure Web pages for points but have different parameters for the secure pages. You could set up one category named Plain and another named Secure.

What can you set for a whole category? Please experiment and add information to this page.

The categories are stored in a vocabulary. You expect vocabularies to be created in the install code. The userpoints.module code contains a function named userpoints_get_vid() and userpoints_get_vid() automatically creates the vocabulary when first accessed.

A category is simply a term in the vocabulary. Add as many as you want. The default General category is built in to code and cannot be removed.

You can create the vocabulary by hand. You can export the vocabulary from one site and import into another using the vocabulary export/import modules.
