Home link settings ignored

My settings under HOME LINK SETTINGS:

• Prepend breadcrumbs with a home link by default - unchecked
• Home link title - empty

Still, the rendered breadcrumbs contain a non-needed preceding hone link as well as a non-needed delimiter.
It seems like: > Ancestor category > Parent category > child category

Here is the markup

Breadcrumbs itself:

Definition: Product (yes, using commerce, and this serves for the product display)
Path: node/%node
Link title: %node:field-productdisplay-category:pb-join:name

Note

Strangely enough, another breadcrumbs guy does not suffer from this issue:
Definition: Category
Path: taxonomy/term/%term
Link title: %term:pb-join:name
Link path: %term:pb-join:url
