I'm puzzled why this module includes a whole 95K copy of jQuery when surely the right approach is to depend on jquery_update and know that the lib will be available?

Uncheck the "Load the requred jQuery 1.7 library automagically"

By the way... jQuery update is buggy, because most of the jQuery code in drupal is made to work with the default jQuery 1.4 and loading a higer version breaks things.

That is why i load jQuery 1.7 using the non-conflict method. Yes it might save you few KB in a single page load (later this file is cached), but it wont break things.

So yea... you have the power to decide if you want that extra KB. My advice is to leave it as is (checked)
