Just tried it, nice idea!

For me, after first install and create a first mirrored link, got error in log "unable to copy from temp to public://mirror/1". I have to manually create mirror folder, then it start to mirror.

I have to disable the "Convert URL to link" filter too, if not no mirroring, and link is mispelled.
