How to extend regions automatically /dynamically to empty regions?

In the "Watt" theme, I am having problems with the "Content" region not expanding automatically/dynamically to the left sidebar region when it's empty. I checked all contexts to make sure nothing is being placed on the left sidebar, but the "Content" region doesn't want to expand to fill the blank sidebar. (Please, see screenshot). Other themes worked fine, but we like this Watt theme better (unless for this little nuisance).

I already tried unchecking:
'Show all regions'
Show all regions including those that are empty. Enable if you are administering your site using the inline editor.

from the 'context settings' at /admin/structure/context/settings

Any ideas are extremely welcome!
