I don't know if this has been discussed and/or if this is the correct place, but:

Problem/Motivation

Non-technical people who just want a site to post cat pictures aren't going to install ddev, mess with composer, etc etc. At the first sign of trouble, they're going to bail. For instance, I tested a recent .zip of Drupal CMS and it timed out a few times. I knew how to figure out why I got a WSOD and how to resolve it, but if any non-technical users get a WSOD they're either going to clog up message boards or they're just going to switch to Wordpress.

Proposed resolution

Make Drupal CMS a one-button, generally foolproof installation for basic hosting plans. Work with major hosting companies and give them the code they need to install Drupal CMS on their systems with minimal user involvement. That could just be a simple screen with 'Site name', 'Admin email', etc and a button. Pressing the button would create the database, put the db info in settings.php, etc etc. There could be a screen listing Drupal installations with buttons like 'backup' and 'update'.

Do the same with cPanel: an installation and update script.

Those replies raise several questions. Where has it been discussed? Is the discussion open?

I'm not suggesting focusing on cPanel to the exclusion of others. I don't use such control panels and I'm not familiar with their competitors, so read "cPanel" as "cPanel, Plesk, or whatever". But, will such control panels be urged to provide what I described?

Will those "hosted solutions" just be Acquia, Pantheon, and perhaps some other insiders, or could major hosting companies like 1&1, Blue Host, GoDaddy, etc make it part of their offerings? The idea of just reserving this for "Drupal hosts" is self-marginalizing.
