The CiviCRM Subscribe block should now be working. See #927144: 6.x CiviCRM Subscribe block does not work - queries non-existent table.
Also, an upgrade routine has been created to ensure the proper database tables exist regardless of what version people are upgrading from.

This module should work now, unpatched, for Drupal 6.x. Please report any issues so that they can get fixed in the next beta, and then a full release made.
