We're happy to report that Drupal.org has moved to our new server and host. As you can see the site is back to being snappy and ready to tend to all your Drupal needs. If you notice any errors or odd things, don't hesitate to tell us.

A big thumbs up to Kjartan for getting this all sorted out so soon. And if you haven't donated yet, maybe now is a good time to show some Drupal-luvin' and drop in a couple of cents?

You may have noticed that the Drupal website has been slow lately. Since the 4.5.0 release, Drupal has gotten a large increase in popularity (more than 10.000 visitors per day worth 70GB of traffic/month). This, coupled with the heavier theme and an aging server has been the source of the performance issues.

Kjartan is busy moving Drupal.org to a new server and host. The old server (a four year old Pentium 3 1Ghz) was not only running the Drupal.org website, but also other sites as well as the Drupal mailing lists, archives and CVS repositories. Our new server (a Pentium Xeon 3Ghz) should be able to handle all those things much better. We'll be moving over to the new server as soon as possible, hopefully before the weekend. Because we are going to switch DNS servers shortly, the site, mailing lists and the CVS repositories might become unavailable while the DNS changes propagate.

This week I migrated the FootNotes website (http://gnomedesktop.org) to Drupal. FootNotes is a news site for the GNOME Desktop project. So far I am pretty happy with it. I've been wanting to do this for months. Especially over the last month when my machine has been getting overloaded, and bombing quite frequently. I had been using a caching system which bought me an extra 1-2 years, but that time was up.

I'd like to announce a multi case study project taking place in my Business Writing class here at Purdue, which aims to develop a formal promotional report for Drupal. This project is part of the OSDDP project at Purdue (see Charlie's post at http://drupal.org/node/11553 ).

This project will produce a detailed profile / case study document about each of the six profile types of Drupal websites (at http://drupal.org/cases ) and to produce a formal report, including recommendations of the use of Drupal to potential clients.
