It had be much systematic to move 'Post settings' menu item, into a tab under 'Posts' (in Administration -> Content management).
It's similar to as 'Comments' has a 'Settings' tab, and not another menu item for just settings.

RobRoy commentedAs drumm said in another issue, there is precedent for both ways. As Users has User settings as a separate menu item but like you said Comments has it as a secondary menu tab for settings.
I think I like the latter best so we should change all of them (I guess this means User settings too) to be consistent so users can expect where to find particular settings. But we should probably get some more input on this first.

drummWhichever is decided needs to fix them all.

Gurpartap Singh commentedShouldn't all the settings go under "Site configuration"? Although looks sweet as tabs.

panchoTo be reconsidered for D7.

michaelfavia commentedCreated new patch against UNSTABLE-5 as head was broken. Standardizes POST and USER settings as LMTs under Content and User menu items respectively. Unclutters the menu and provides a common UI that many contrib modules use too so hopefully the meme will be embraced.

michaelfavia commentedThis issue has gained more traction with another solution. Please see:
Issue #361277: Remove the 'post settings' admin screen and relocate contents
Issue #391412: Move contact form, post, and user settings below Site configuration
