This is inconsistent with core, which uses the username. It's also inaccurate for an admin who is looking at another user's profile.

Indeed. I've just fixed that what was not so trivial, but I found the right hack in user_menu() and copied it. Also, I fixed the title callback to always show the profile label for profile pages (not the profile type label).
