I recently posted a couple blog entries, then told some friends about one of them. They keep telling me the page comes up as "page not found". Sure enough if I log out then I get "page not found". Nothing shows up in the watchdog log. If I clear the cache ("drush cc") then the pages start to show up, only to sometime later get "page not found". It's only the most recent two posts this happens for. Earlier posts come up fine, though I haven't exhaustively tested all the thousands of nodes on the site.

Try disabling fast_cache. We just had this widespread problem for days on a busy site, and the 404s only stopped when I disabled fast_cache.

I haven't fully traced this yet, but it seems as though there's a possible condition where the fast cache routine returns nothing for a (new, uncached?) page, and this returns a 404. It doesn't trigger drupal_not_found(), though; thus, no watchdog entry.

The differences between your situation and ours are: (a) we're using memcache for all bins except cache_form, and (b) we hadn't enabled $conf['page_cache_fastpath'] in settings.php; only the fast_cache option in the Cache Router config.

I'll update the thread if I come up with more info.

I just got more 404s with fast_cache disabled. Back to the drawing board.
