When placing a theme into a site-specific directory (i.e. sites/example.com/themes
), it will somehow lose the assigned CSS information after some time (likely after a cron run, I have not checked this). The HTML structure defined by the templates are still available, but the CSS information is lost.
Emptying the caches solves the problem temporarily.
Moving the theme folder into sites/all/themes
solves the problem for good.
