I use Auto Admin for an external Database which works only because I put some db_set_active('db2'); at several places. A #database-Field in the auto admin schema would be really cool. Anyone has some pointers how I could do that.

This is not on my todo list a.t.m, but a patch should be _really_ easy to create. As fcedillo mentions the method at http://drupal.org/node/539142#comment-2924512 should still be valid (Added comment about drush commands).
