exposed filter by date invalid _GET url parameter

I created a view which displays nodes (images) in a grid. There is one argument - taxonomy term id, which displays a summary (links to galleries). There are also two exposed filters - taxonomy vocabulary and date with month granularity (node datetime field). Default gallery page (http://site.domain/gallery) shows summary grouped by taxonomy vocabulary entries. Links to these galleries are in the form: http://site.domain/gallery/8?vid=All&date_filter[value]=&date_filter[min...

These links work as expected - images labelled with taxonomy id 8 are listed. When date filter is selected in the filter (January 2010) the following views page is displayed instead (date_filter format is completely different):
http://site.domain/gallery?vid=All&date_filter%5Bvalue%5D%5Byear%5D=2010...

Real problem is in the new links on the above view summary (filtered by date to images created in January 2010). Links to galleries are in the form, which does not work: http://site.domain/gallery/8?vid=All&date_filter[value]=2010-01-01%2000%...

Following this link leads to error with a message that selected for date argument option 2 is invalid. If I manually enter a link with date_field in format used when displaying view by default, cleaning the URL from escape characters on the way, the gallery is displayed properly and exposed filter is updated accordingly. Working link:
http://site.domain/gallery/8?vid=All&date_filter[value][year]=2010&date_...

Question: can this link be changed to the one that is working and how to do it in views?

I am interested in sovling this in any way, i.e. if not using views UI, then in the code. Question is if this should be done by using e.g. a hook in a new module, by creating a custom block instead of default exposed filter block or maybe this is a bug in views/date?
