Pobster:

I wanted to let you know that after our dialog last fall, Andrew Ariotti and I ended up hiring two freelancers to put together some code for handling HTML tables with near equivalent functionality to TableManager specifically. In effect, it is a ground up re-coding of your D6 .dev version.

As we said then, we greatly value the functionality of your module - it plays a critical role on our sites - and we are indebted to you for conceiving of it. But the .dev version just wasn't cutting it for us since we run D6 production environments. As you've said numerous times yourself (e.g., http://drupal.org/node/703466#comment-2575564), the .dev version is not "fully functioning" and is not meant for use on live sites.

As you may recall, we had offered to pay you and/or to engage freelancers to rewrite the .dev code and so forth, but it didn't work out and we had no option but to pursue things independently. We regret that we were not able to work together, but the cards fell where they did and that was that.

The new code is final debugging stages - completely revamped and with all features working (though a few are left out by design since neither Andrew or I use them). We are hoping to release it for others to use at some point. The question is how.

We don't really know what the right way to move forward is, so we have posted to webmasters (http://drupal.org/node/772790) seeking guidance and welcome your input, as well. It could be via a new module or, possibly, as a new version of TM.

Given the history here, we are thinking a new module is the better route. Tentative name is NodeTable. We have also enlisted two co-maintainers who are prepared to take the lead with it.

In an ideal world, we would have collaborated all along and be publishing this as an official TM D6 version, but we didn't. Plus, you have made it clear that co-maintainers aren't your thing anyway (http://drupal.org/node/623482#comment-2231592), so that points us back to a new module.

But we'll see what direction we get from the community and move forward accordingly.

With regards,
John

Per guidance from webmasters (http://drupal.org/node/772790), we will be moving forward with a new module called NodeTable at http://drupal.org/project/nodetable

spam? what a bizarre comment.

at the suggestion of pobster, there had been some discussion about merging the two modules for the benefit of the existing TM community, but I think this comment is probably the final nail in the coffin of that idea.

anyone who doesn't think our effort is spam is welcome to visit our project page for more info. http://drupal.org/project/nodetable.

code for D6 version will be posted soon. a few bugs need to be worked out, but it is substantially done and tested.
