The color module fix just went in last night: #693504: Color.module does not support more than 5 colors and has hard-coded labels. So, thankfully, it looks like this might not be needed in D7.
In that issue there is a backport of the D7 fix to D6. So should this module be refactored to reflect that, for forward compatibility?
(Note: I haven't actually looked at this module yet. I just found out about it today.)
