Thanks for the hard work put into this project!
I have a dedicated server running on a LAMP stack and using Virtualmin. I followed the instructions at:
http://git.aegirproject.org/?p=provision.git;a=blob_plain;f=HINTS_CentOS...
starting at step2 since everything in step1 exists already. I did run into an error in step2 when doing the following command:
gpasswd -a aegir www-data
It seems on my setup, httpd command uses "apache" user. Proceeding to step3 I run install.sh, downloaded from:
http://git.aegirproject.org/?p=provision.git;a=blob_plain;f=install.sh.t...
And got the following output
==> Aegir provision backend installed successfully
==> Deploying hostmaster application

sed: -e expression #3, char 13: unterminated `s' command
And that was the last line of the process...
Here are the basic variables within the install.sh file:
AEGIR_DOMAIN=mydomain.com # No subdomain here, is this an issue? No prior DNS on the server for this domain
AEGIR_VERSION=0.4-alpha6
AEGIR_HOME=$HOME
WEB_GROUP=apache # CentOS doesn't use www-data, as the CentOS instructions say
DRUSH_VERSION=All-versions-3.0-beta1
DRUSH_MAKE_VERSION=6.x-2.0-beta6
In the above, you will see the WEB_GROUP is set as apache. I kept getting errors when using "www-data". Doing some research, the "httpd" command uses the "apache" user.
Directories are made in /var/aegir, but apache.conf in /var/aegir/config seems to be lacking some details. This is what I have in /var/aegir/apache.conf:
NameVirtualHost *:80
<IfModule ssl_module>
NameVirtualHost *:443
</IfModule>
<IfModule !env_module>
LoadModule env_module modules/mod_env.so
</IfModule>
<IfModule !rewrite_module>
LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
</IfModule>
Include /var/aegir/config/vhost.d/
Include /var/aegir/config/platform.d/
Both vhost.d and platform.d exist. vhost.d has a single file, "mydomain.com" which is empty. And platform.d is an empty directory.
Just for kicks I did restart apache and got the following error:
"[warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts"
And when visiting mydomain.com I get a "server not found" message. The domain is pointed to the server nameservers.
The other sites on the server are loading just fine... I hope that helps in the trouble shooting.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedthe file 'mydomain' in /var/aegir/config/vhost.d is empty because of the sed failure.
Everything else isn't related (i.e your Server Not Found dns issues).
I guess we need to find out why the sed command failed, perhaps CentOS has a different version of sed that didn't understand our replacement pattern in install.sh

elvis2 commentedThanks mig5 for the reply. I am running CentOS 5.2 32bit. Should I update sed and see if that doe the trick? My sed version:
sed version 4.1.5 / June 2006

Anonymous (not verified) commentedI just installed 0.4alpha7 on CentOS and could not reproduce this issue. Same sed version
sed --version
GNU sed version 4.1.5
One difference is my CentOS version:
CentOS release 5.4 (Final)
But I don't know whether that'd make a difference. I'll have to mark this as postponed until someone can reproduce..

mattmcmanus commentedHow are you downloading the install.sh file? I had the same error earlier today that ended up being a simple line break that shouldn't of been there. Check line 242 and make sure
sed -e "s#DocumentRoot .*#DocumentRoot $HOSTMASTER_DIR#" -e "s#Directory .*#Directory $HOSTMASTER_DIR>#" -e "s/ServerName .*/ServerName $AEGIR_DOMAIN/" $HOSTMASTER_DIR/profiles/hostmaster/apache2.conf.txt > $AEGIR_HOME/config/vhost.d/${AEGIR_DOMAIN}_80is an unbroken line.For me, wget wasn't downloading the file correctly so I just copied and pasted the contents from the browser into nano.
I hope this helps.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedYeah that's probably due to gitweb.
I sometimes do curl -L -o install.sh 'http://git.aegirproject.org/?p=provision.git;a=blob_plain;f=install.sh.t...'
Or same as you, copy and paste into an empty file.
