Node Type as Taxonomy Term

I think it'd be great to categorize the node types themselves in taxonomy to more cleanly present node types during content creation and browsing. So, by default, there’d be a taxonomy of “node types” with terms created each time a node type is added.

I plan on taxonomically organizing node-type terms on my site and using the category module to create nodes of each node type so that they may be further used in categorization.

In the future, I think cck could create a generic node type when a term is added to this taxonomy. It could also structure the fields based on the relationship the created node had to existing node types.

Some ideas on the usefulness:
-gets closer to the everything is a node plan
-the names of each node type would be more universal
-the "create content" menu item could be created by category_menu if category makes it into core
