markus_petrux commentedDate popups work for us. For example, we have nodes with date fields configured with Date popup widget, and we can use the "Create and reference" feature in Node Relationships module, which is based on Modal Frame API. Date popup widgets work here.
I haven't tested with OpenLayers maps, however. Anyway, editing nodes with almost all kind of fields and javascript stuff work for us, including Ajax Views, File uploads, SWFUpload, "Add more" buttons for multiple value fields and multigroups, Wysiwyg, and so on.
This is because Modal Frame API uses an iframe, and that isolates the content of the child window to a separate document, independent from the parent window, while still providing methods to sync the events from one to the other.
If problems arise, the source could be related to almost anything, not just Modal Frames. It could be that other modules are not coded using Drupal javascript guidelines (Drupal behaviors), incompatibilities with jQuery or jQuery UI, or who knows... You'll have to debug the flow of execution with javascript aggregation disabled to find out what's going on. Also, without a step by step method to reproduce the issue, it's hard to guess.

markus_petrux commentedTry with latest dev versions, and use jQuery UI 1.7.x with jQuery 1.3.x.
