It would be very helpful to be able to convert comments to nodes and to carry their dependent comments with them. See this and this thread.

Just a fyi: This can already be done with the comment_mover module (HEAD); a patch to upgrade to Drupal 5 is in it's issue queue.
I would like to see this in comment.module as it's an important part of the feature set. This really doesn't belong in a third party module.
This issue hasn't been worked on in 3 years as far as I can tell.
Recommend using a contributed module, until there is a more common need for this.
