I have been experiencing a tremendous amount of trouble with category_menu. It seems to me that the issue is more with drupal's underlying menu system that this module uses rather than with category_menu per se.

I just remembered that I had raised an issue about the drupal menu system a few months ago that more or less mirrors the issues I have faced with category_menu. Killes had responded with a patch and even Dries seemed interested, so I thought I would flag this for attention. Here is the thread:

This is 3 years old, about 4.7.x (now unsupported), and not much info here...
